Clean Water for All
After viewing a UNICEF movie showing the terrible conditions of children living in poverty in Third World countries, and seeing a presentation by a Medical College of Wisconsin student who volunteered her time in Nicaragua, Haley and her friends Haley, Hailey, Mimi and Emily were inspired to help change the world.
The five friends organized a school-wide art fair at Lake Bluff Elementary School in Shorewood. The show consisted of functional artwork such as calendars, decorated flowerpots and hand-made mittens created by all of the students in the school. All of the proceeds went toward the purchase of a well for a village in Nicaragua so they could have clean water.
The one-day art fair raised $900 and showed the students at Lake Bluff that they can indeed make a difference. The girls say raising the money was life inspiring because now the children of this village (pictured below) can have clean water, something most of us take for granted.
