Great news! There's no better time to make a gift to the Lesbian Fund. New or increased gifts will be matched by the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors’ Cultures of Giving Program with major funding by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.
Our Mission
The Lesbian Fund's mission is to encourage philanthropy that will increase the visibility of lesbians as strong community leaders, inform and advocate for lesbian concerns, and provide financial support to initiatives benefiting lesbians at all stages of life.
Our Vision
The Lesbian Fund will serve as the recognized philanthropic catalyst for raising community consciousness of, and commitment to, enhancing the quality of lesbian life.

The Successes
Wisconsin can be proud of its advances for lesbians and gay men:
- In 1982, Wisconsin became the first state to ban discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations based on sexual orientation.
- Wisconsin allows individual gays and lesbians to adopt children, and foster care agencies are actively recruiting gays and lesbians as foster parents.
- Nearly 100 Wisconsin corporate and government employers offer domestic partnership benefits to employees.
- The City of Milwaukee and the City of Madison have established domestic partner registries.
Why A Lesbian Fund?
Although there are a few existing funds and foundations that have a strong history of funding LGBT issues, there are not any that focus solely on lesbian issues. The Lesbian Fund will be built and advised by lesbians.
The Opportunity
A gift to the Lesbian Fund is an investment in a future that values lesbians as respected and important members of the community.
Why You Should Give:
- The Fund is an endowment fund - a permanent resource dedicated to meeting the unique needs of lesbians at all stages of their lives.
- The Fund will be lesbian advised.
- Unlike traditional donations to an organization, a gift to the Lesbian Fund will grow. Because grants will be made from Fund income, your donation will grow and increase in value, and continue to generate granting dollars.
- The Fund will be a legacy to future generations. Because it is permanent, it can always be used to meet the emerging needs of new generations.
- The Fund will increase the visibility of lesbians and lesbian leadership in our community.
